Junior High School Staff

The students at Morton Ranch High School are extremely fortunate to receive exemplary instruction while in Junior High School. The successes of the Morton Ranch High School Band are a driect result of the dedication of the many teachers that started these students on their musical journey.

TH McDonald Junior High School

Joe Young

Mr. Young is the Director of Bands at McDonald Junior High School. Mr young has been teaching for some time, with over 20 Years Teaching Experienc, 10 of which years teaching at McDonald Junior High. Mr. Young is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University. Mr. Young is an active clinician and judge with a specialty in brass. 

Jeff Tipps
Jeffrey Tipps is in his fourth year as Assistant Band Director at McDonald Junior High.  Mr. Tipps is a 2008 graduate of Abilene Christian University where he studied with Dr. J. Eric Wilson, Mr. Greg Bush, Dr. Sally Reid, and Dr. Steven Ward.  While at ACU, Mr. Tipps performed with the ACU Wind Ensemble, Abilene Tri-Collegiate Orchestra, ACU Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and in multiple chamber groups as a woodwind specialist.  An award-winning composer and professional arranger, Mr. Tipps has written and arranged music for collegiate marching bands, concert bands, and choirs; high school and junior high bands; multiple chamber ensembles; electro-acoustic ensembles;  and various high school marching bands who consistently achieve UIL sweepstakes with advancements to UIL Area and UIL State Marching Contest.  His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and Mu Phi Epsilon.

Katy Junior High School

Richard Maher 

Mr. Maher is currently the Director of Bands at Katy Junior High School in Katy ISD. He received his musical training at the University of Houston earning a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with a performance minor. He is an active trombonist in the community performing in various small ensembles and orchestras including principal trombone/section leader in the Woodlands Concert Band under the direction of Paul Worosello. Mr. Maher is also the associate trombonist in the Houston Brass Band conducted by Bob Walp. Some of Mr. Maher's musical mentors include Rober Mayes, Former U of H Director of Bands, Robert McElroy, Associate Director for the Houston Symphonic Band, Don Lucas, Trombone Instructor for Boston University, and his loving wife, Andrea who is associate director of bands at McCullough Junior High School in Conroe ISD. Mr. Maher's interests include playing with his lovely daughter Allison, BBQ grilling and collecting film soundtracks. 

Cindy Gorton

Mary Gold

Mary Gold earned a Bachelor Degree in Music Education from Western Michigan University. She has a Master of Music Education Degree from Southern Methodist University. Ms. Gold has taught for many years in South Texas and the Houston Area. She plays French Horn and is active as a clinician for young horn players in the area. In her spare time Ms. Gold is Music Director and Conductor of the Houston Sinfonietta Community Orchestra and plays Horn professionally with the Houston Brass Quintet.
